See our Facebook🫗We have discovered that no water means the seed will not germinate or grow.
🌥No warmth means the seed will go mouldy and won’t grow at the same rate as the others.
☀No light shocked us as it meant the leaves turned yellow and the stems were all bendy because they were searching for light.
There were some anomalies which we have discussed at length as to why this was a different result. The seeds that got watered everyday actually grew the best and healthiest. We discovered this was because of the heatwave, and it being unnaturally hot compared to other years.
🪴The plant that should have grown the best as it had all the best growing conditions turned black-the seed and the leaves. We concluded this was because the sun was too hot in the heatwave and we need to think about where plants are next time.
Great scientific thinking Year 2!

Delivered nationally by The Reading Agency and run in partnership with public libraries, the free annual challenge encourages children aged 4–11 to keep reading during the summer holidays, helping them stay motivated and confident ahead of the new school year.
What’s happening in North Somerset libraries
North Somerset Libraries are backing this year’s challenge with a fantastic programme of lively, creative events to help children and families get involved:
📚Craft sessions in every library – with fun, themed activities to spark creativity and bring the challenge to life
📚Author visits from Hana Tooke: Worle library – 11 August at 10am
📚From hands-on crafts to live performances and exciting author events, there’s something for every young reader to enjoy.
How to join the challenge?
Children can sign up for free at any North Somerset library from Saturday 4 July, choose the books they love, and start their very own reading adventure.
Whether they enjoy stories, facts, comics or audiobooks, every child can take part - and every book counts.
So, pick up a library card, grab a book, and get ready to ‘Read to the Beat’!
At both Banwell and Locking schools, we will celebrate all children who participated in the summer reading challenge when we return in September in our first celebration assembly of the new academic year!

They were so confident in their performances, showcasing tunes inspired by Harry Potter and even a self-composed piece! Mrs Page is a regular visitor to our school, supporting and coaching pupils just like these two super-stars!
