Early Years Foundation Stage – understanding of the world 

The educational programme for understanding of the world, set out in the EYFS Framework, is delivered in our preschool and reception classes in line with the ELAN Nursery and Preschool Curriculum and the ELAN Reception Curriculum

Key Stage 1 and 2 – Science 

We follow the national curriculum. 

In Year 1, we teach science in line with our multi-academy trust’s ‘Extend Early Curriculum’. 

We follow HEP Science scheme of work in Year 2-6 which provides the foundations for understanding the world through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. 

Curriculum Overview 

 In Locking we teach the HEP Science Curriculum in years 3-6. Our implementation was a four year roll out program to ensure pupils had in depth knowledge to enable them to access the following year. As a result in 2025-2026 years’ 5 and 6 will teach the same units and year 6 will do an additional field study in the summer term to bridge the gaps identified.
